The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O Lord, endures forever--do not abandon the works of your hands. Psalm 138:8
In a conversation with Matt the other day, he asked what my verse for the year was. Uh, what do you mean? Like, out of the 31,103 verses in the bible, I’m suppose to predetermine a scripture to fit my particular theological bent for blahblahblahblahblahblaaaaah. I should have been slapped. Right there. In that moment. The question was simply, what verse do you want to adopt into your year? That’s it. No theological twisting or contortion. Just one verse.
But I’m simply complicated and I make nothing easy. Like nothing. Matt showed me some scriptures he’d written down in his journal the last couple weeks of reading and I, well, wanted some too. Not because I’m uber spiritual, but because I’m competitive and I want a life verse too!
While scouring the scriptures for a totally amazing, fantastically stupendous, earth shattttttering scripture [insert booming voice here], I was gently coddled during my devotions when I came across Psalm 138:8 again. I blogged about it before but this time it was with greater significance. Though this is not my verse for the year, it was a reminder of yesteryear when the Lord used a gentle word to encourage me in a time of forgotteness.
I spoke to Matt today and was very proud to announce that I have my verses. Yes, as plural. Why have one verse when you can have FIVE, I shrieked with excitement. He simply rolled his eyes and said I was complicated.
If you have a verse you’re holding onto or a promise for 2010, would you share it? I would love instead of resolutions, we create revolutions in our heart, mind, and soul. If you share yours, I’ll share mine :)

I hate to be so boring and use a very well known verse but it is really my life verse!!
Jeremiah 29:11-13
11For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
I will be searching for a few more!! I love that you have 5!!!
I JUST blogged about this! :) Mine is in Philippians and its more than one verse! Yeah, I like having more than one myself. :)
Its Philippians 3:12-16 these verses are what I am holding onto for the next year!
Plural is ALWAYS better! ;)
1 Peter 3:10-12 really came out of nowhere last week and started kicking me around (in a good way). So I'm adopting it as my passage for this year. :) And for your pleasure I added verse 8 & 9 in there for ya too! :P
"8 Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. 9 Don't repay evil for evil. Don't retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will bless you for it. 10 For the Scriptures say,
"If you want to enjoy life
and see many happy days,
keep your tongue from speaking evil
and your lips from telling lies.
11 Turn away from evil and do good.
Search for peace, and work to maintain it.
12 The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right,
and his ears are open to their prayers.
But the Lord turns his face
against those who do evil."
I can't wait for 2010!! :)

sometimes I feel like I talk about God too much or people get tired of me related all of their worries or problems to God...but this verse helps...
*yes i have kids so i just quoted a cartoon flick:)
Holding onto these verses and trusting the Lord to bring us out of this fire without being scorched or smelling like smoke!! Praying we will serve and worship the King no matter what His plan is!
If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king.
But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up." ...
And the satraps, administrators, governors, and the king's counselors gathered together, and they saw these men on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them.
Daniel 3:17-18, 27
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.
Isaiah 43:2
The Lord has always been faithful to give me a verse each year. This year the 1st verse is "Point out anything in me that offends you.and lead me along the path of everlasting life."
Bianca, I always have more than one verse because He knows I need to hear Him in every area of my life.
Jer 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. This my life verse and try to keep it with me at all time as promised of God to me, I have declared this my survivor verse,
I love you. good job taking into account what we spoke about. See...it's not such a big deal. :)
I'll be back with my verses...
My verse is a very common verse, but something I constantly have to remind myself. This verse reminds me that I have a creator who wants the best for me and wants to give me His best if I trust in Him.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.
Proverbs 3, 5-6
I have 2...(or so)
Psalm 118 (ok..so its a little more than 2)..this is the day that the Lord has made, lets rejoice and be glad in it

Hey B!
I don't know where I have been but who's Matt?
There are too many verses the Lord gave me this year to pick just one too, so I will give you my fav's of what he gave me! ;)
9/27 Isaiah 62:4
"You shall no longer be termed Forsaken, Nor shall your land any more be termed Desolate; But you shall be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah, For the Lord delights in you, And your land shall be married."
10/5 Mark 11:24 "Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray BELIEVE that you receive them, and you will have them."
Ephesians 3:20 Now Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or thik, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen."
2 Cor 5:7 "For we walk by faith, not by sight."
8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD.
9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts."
Oops, the last verse 8-9 was from Isaiah 55:8-9.
here is another one for me:)
Luke 10:27 (New Living Translation)
27 The man answered, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”[a]
I'm just preparing a blog post about this too. :) This will actually be the first year we do this...we did it for our girls at the start of the school year and it's neat to help them rediscover what the verse means or how God has used it in their little lives. For my husband and I:
"And He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new... " Revelation 21:5a

After 7 years of marriage, we are seeking a new, christ-centered marriage that glorifies Him alone...
...and here's the scriptures we chose for the kiddlywinks back in September...
Some of my favorite "Life" verses have already been mentioned - Jeremiah 29:11 and Psalms 46.
But for 2010, I am hanging on to these :)
2 Corinthians 12:9-10
But he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Proverbs 3: 5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths."
B,
I have so many verses I love but one I always claim for myself and the family is 2 Thess. 3:3 "The Lord is faithful and will strengthen me and protect me from Satanic attacks".
Love you,
Mom
JS 12:29 Treat others as you would expect to be treated.
Now I will be searching for an amazing year verse too! :) But one of my life verses is 2 Timothy 1:7"For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline." This truth has allowed me to not fear or chicken out on the challenges God has called me to. :)
Bianca, funny you should blog this. For the past five years a "year" verse is something that God has called me to do. I like how you wrote instead of resolutions to create a revolution in our hearts and that is exactly what the Lord spoke to me when I began to hold on to that year verse.
Throughout the year there are many verses that speak and comfort me but it's like that one verse is my challenge or goal.
For 2009 it was... well still is till tomorrow:
Psalm 143:8 Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, for in You do I trust; cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to You.
This past Sunday He led me to my 2010 verse:
Matthew 16:26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
Can't wait to read yours.
i don't have mine yet. but i guess it may be because i'm complicated too. i have always been sort of...envious i guess, of people who have life verses. i never really had a LIFE VERSE (gasp) and i am a pastor's daughter, AND was homeschooled. haha!
thanks for the challange, and my goal is to hear from God on a verse for 2010. :)
Mine lately has been, "Owe no one anything except to love one another..." Romans 13:8 :)
awesome idea, I pray that God will show me my verse for the year.
A scripture close to my heart is:
Fear you not; for I am with you: be not dismayed; for I am your God: I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you; yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.
Isaiah 41:10
<3
I've never done this before - what a good idea :)
I think this is the one for me:
"Now, therefore,” says the LORD,“ Turn to Me with all your heart, With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.”So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the LORD your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm. Joel 2:12-13.
Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.
Psalm 46:10
As a wife and mother, I often forget to be still. Love is often action, but God is teaching me to show Him love by being still and seeking Him.
